Crime in Klerksdorp CBD 'cause for concern'─── 15:58 Wed, 20 Jul 2022
The police in Klerksdorp, North West, are encouraging residents in the area who may have been victims of crime, to come forward so that the criminals can face the full might of the law and justice can be served.
This comes after several videos of victims being in attempted robberies in Klerksdorp Central Business District (CBD) have been causing a stir on social media.
In an attempt to save his family from the perpetrators, a man in one of the videos pulled out a knife to defend himself and his family, where the perpetrators scurried away.
In the second video making the rounds, a police officer in uniform can be seen in a tussle with a group of individuals, where he later pulls out his gun in an attempt to scare them off and protect himself.
Adele Myburgh, North West police spokesperson, confirms the incidents, however, in both incidents the victims declined to open a criminal case against the suspects who just so happen to be known to the police.
“We are actively involved on the ground, and we have had meetings and additional members deployed. We are ready to assist the community. As the police, we have identified who the suspects are. They are known to the police, but the victims do not want to open cases. For example, the man in the first video refused to open a case, after being called twice by the station commander,” she said.
OFM News previously reported that residents in the Klerksdorp-based Matlosana Local Municipality have been asked to remain calm whilst the police are on high alert following the murder of a notorious gang boss in Jouberton.
