DA welcomes Bloemfontein High court decision─── 14:24 Fri, 06 May 2022
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Maluti-A-Phofung (MAP) local municipality, in the Free State, has welcomed a recent decision taken by the Bloemfontein High Court.
The court has found that two senior staff members, the Municipal Manager (MM) and the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) at the municipality were irregularly appointed.
Their appointments took place on March 26, 2020.
At the time the municipality had been placed under administration.
The court also found that their inflated salaries were unlawful, irregular, and set aside.

The court ordered that the excessive income each received –amounting to roughly R1 million each - must be paid back within 90 days.

DA leader in the MAP municipality, Allison Oates, says her party welcomes the court’s decision.
“We will make every effort to ensure that the money will be paid back to the severely cash-strapped municipality as per the court order.”
