Former players from the Northern Free State Rugby Union will gather for the first time this weekend with 96 former players expected to attend.

This is in support of the Griffons Rugby Union, who will be playing against the Southern Western Districts (SWD) on Saturday 7 May, amongst other teams that will be playing.

According to a former coach and former president of the Northern Free State Rugby Union, Frans Wessels, the former players will spend the weekend building and supporting the Griffons, but will not be participating in any games.

Wessels states that the games will be at the Northern Free State Rugby Stadium, where the main game will start at 15:30 on Saturday afternoon. Entrance is free and open to everyone, with strict Covid-19 regulations in place. Those who would like to attend are required to produce a Covid-19 vaccine certificate at entry.

“This is all about Griffons rugby, this is where we pledge to rugby, enjoy the fellowship and consider doors that rugby can open for you as well. Come join the game, let’s support the youngsters, these guys are doing pretty well. If you can be there please make an effort to attend, as we are all looking forward to seeing the public”.
