Delayed water, sanitation projects resuscitated in Free State─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:56 Thu, 14 Apr 2022
The Department of Water and Sanitation’s plans to resuscitate delayed projects in the Free State are underway.
The department had about eight delayed projects or projects where they did not not achieve the required results due to various reasons. The department has, however, put recovery plans in place to ensure that projects are on track to be completed. The department’s report shows that some of the contractors had not started due to a required process of assessing the existing equipment and components, prior to commencing with work. Other delays were caused by the acquisition of material through local tenders, and contractors being appointed after review of engineering designs.
Some of the incomplete projects include the construction of the Rouxville Water Treatment Plant, water eradication systems in places such as Ficksburg, Clocolan, Senekal, and Dealesville, among others. The department has taken major strides in ensuring that the projects are completed between April 2022 and March 2023.
