President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to engage with residents of the troubled Mangaung Metro at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium, where his presidential Imbizo will be taking place on Saturday.

Ramaphosal is expected to visit the Vereeniging Drive Interchange, following the extension of Vereeninging Drive, and construction of the bridge over the railway line.

He is then expected to go to the Motheo TVET Artisan College - which will be officially launched in Bloemfontein after years of development.

Acting spokesperson for President Ramaphosa, Tyrone Seale, says today’s presidential Imbizo will highlight and address any challenges to service delivery, in line with the District Development Model (DDM).

The metro has been in the spotlight recently for all the wrong reasons, and came under scrutiny during a National Council of Provinces (NCOP) sitting recently at the Free State Legislature.

Ealier this week, the Metro's Council was stripped of its executive powers by the National Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta).

There is now a national intervention in the Metro, after the provincial executive’s failure to implement a financial recovery plan.

Seale states that the national government interventions is directed at assisting the Metro to improve its financial state and deliver on its mandate.

OFM News previously reported that Minister of Cogta, Dlamini-Zuma, was allegedly under the impression that the provincial Cogta Department, led by MEC Mxolisi Dukwana, treated the metro with kid gloves.
