The warning means that localised flooding, travel disruptions, and damage in low-lying areas are expected.
Residents in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and the North West experienced heavy rain overnight.
The South African Weather Service has issued warnings of disruptive rain at areas in the Free State - Bethlehem, Reitz, Warden, Sasolburg, Parys; the North West - Potchefstroom, Hartbeespoort, Rustenburg, Ventersdorp, Koster; as well as at Vereeniging.
Motorists are being urged to drive carefully and to maintain a safe following distance on slippery roads with potholes not visible because of flooding.
