#N1 open following major accident─── LUCKY NKUYANE 07:36 Sat, 11 Dec 2021
The notorious N1 road which runs through the Free State has been reopened for traffic following a horrific accident.
On Thursday, two trucks collided at the N1 Koppies off-ramp, leading to the death of one truck driver who presumably burned to death. The other truck's driver was sent to Kroonstad Hospital for urgent medical attention after sustaining serious injuries.
Meanwhile, police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, said a culpable homicide case will be opened for further investigation.

“Investigations on the scene will reveal the cause of the accident, as well as further information." He added that, at the time, the road was totally closed and traffic heading north was diverted at Kroonstad, to offramp to the Heilbron/Koppies road. Traffic heading south was diverted before the Vaal Toll Plaza to Vredefort.
The truck was removed at about 16:30 and the road is completely open for traffic.
