Lack of youth empowerment constitutes a huge concern in NW─── 15:26 Thu, 24 Jun 2021

Poverty, unemployment, and inequality still pose a huge challenge in the rural areas of North West.
This is according to the North West MEC of Arts, Culture, Sports, and Recreation, Tsotso Tlhapi. In a virtual youth sectoral parliament meeting held earlier on Thursday, under the theme “The Dark Reality of Covid-19 on the Youth of North West”, Tlhapi said Covid-19 continues to threaten people’s health, the economy and has a social effect on young people.
The suffering of the business sector as a result of the coronavirus has led to job losses and affected the education system in the North West province and the country as a whole. Thlapi further stated that it is important that they systematically deal with the three challenges the local youth is faced with, which include poverty, unemployment, and inequality.
According to Tlhapi, the North West provincial government - through the Office of the Premier - has organised itself by identifying four pillars in line with the youth development policy towards 2030. The pillars include food security, management, entrepreneurship support, and cultural edutainment.
