The Hawks in the Free State are investigating a cash-in-transit robbery after a G4S vehicle was bombed near Virginia on Monday morning.
According to the Hawks spokesperson, Christopher Singo, two G4S security guards were going to collect and deliver money when they were attacked by four suspects. He says the heist happened on the R730 between Welkom and Virginia.
Singo says according to information received, the suspects shot at the vehicle until it stopped. Security guards were instructed to step outside the vehicle and their firearms were confiscated. He says the vehicle was set alight and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
Whilst no injuries were reported, Singo says the suspects fled the scene. Investigations continue.
