Bloemfontein traffic officers on bail─── 15:25 Wed, 28 Apr 2021
A Bloemfontein traffic officer, who appeared in court in connection with allegations of soliciting a bribe, was released on bail in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The 50-year-old female traffic officer, Tsoanyane Martha Retselisitswe, who is also known as Mamoruti, and her colleague Letebele Rampai (44) were arrested on Monday 26 April 2021.
This follows after Retselisitswe allegedly asked the foreign motorist to produce his passport and a gratification of R1400 for his vehicle to be released after it was impounded. The incident took place last week Thursday 21 April 2021 at Bloemfontein. Police were informed about the officer’s request and a sting operation was set up. The Hawks spokesperson in the province, Christopher Singo, says Retselisitswe’s colleague was the one who accepted the alleged bribe.
They were both arrested and released on R2000 bail. The case was postponed to 3 June 2021 for further investigations.
