#PrellerSquareShooting: 'Siemens was very alert'─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:54 Fri, 27 Nov 2020
The Bloemfontein High Court on Friday heard that former CityMed Managing Director, Louis Siemens, was very alert before his murder in 2018.
This as the cross-examination of the convicted killer and key state witness, Xolisile Botha Mbebeto, continued on Friday.
Mbebeto testified that murder accused, Stanley Bakili, at one point played a Whatsapp voice recording, sent by Siemens to Bakili, warning him not to come to his house. He also testified that the deceased told Bakili that he suspected Bakili wanted to kill him. Following these concerns of Siemens, Bakili allegedly laughed at the message and told Siemens that he also suspected that Siemens wanted to kill him.
Mbebeto earlier testified that Bakili placed immense pressure on him to execute Siemens at his place of residence but it seemed as if the deceased was always one step ahead of them. He said he raised his concerns about Siemens' actions because it appeared as if he was alerted by a neighbour. This after the woman apparently noticed his movements around the area and raised her suspicions.
Mbebeto continued to blame the police for not taking down his statement accurately after he was arrested. This follows after Bakili's legal representative, Advocate Masilo Koenane, pointed these differences out as contradictions.
Bakili and seven men are in the dock for the murder of Siemens who was gunned down in broad daylight in 2018 in the basement parking of the Preller Square Shopping complex. Mbebeto is currently serving a jail sentence of 22-years after being found guilty of pulling the trigger and killing Siemens. The trail has been postponed to Monday when Koenane is expected to continue cross-examining the witness.
