Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela must remove Sam Mashinini from his duties as the MEC for Police, Roads, and Transport.

This is according to the DA in the province following a damning Public Protector report released on Wednesday. The leader of the opposition in the Legislature, Roy Jankielsohn, says Ntombela must take action against Mashinini.

Busisiwe Mkhwebane, in her investigation on a complaint lodged by the DA in 2016 regarding the manner in which former Premier Ace Magashule and Mashinini replied to questions about the funeral costs of the former MEC and the appointment of Letlaka Communications in the premier's office, found Mashinini guilty of misleading the Legislature.

During a media briefing on Wednesday, Mkhwebane outlined that claims made against Magashule by the party were unsubstantiated, but found that Mashinini had contravened the constitution and the Executive Ethics Code for members of the executive council in the province.

Whilst the party welcomes Mkhwebane's report, Jankielsohn told OFM News they are of the view that senior politicians still need to be held accountable and the former Free State Premier is one of those politicians.

"We will interrogate this report further and we have also consulted lawyers in this regard," added Jankielsohn.
