North West Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), says they are waiting for a report after a protest erupted in the Lekwa-Teemane Local municipality which includes Christiana and Bloemhof.
This, after municipal workers yesterday, 5 February, downed their tools to call for the removal of the Municipal Manager, Ndoda Mgengo. Workers allege that Mgengo was not hired on merits and also suspect mal-administration in the municipality.
CoGTA spokesperson, Dineo Thapelo, said the MEC of Cogta, Mothibedi Kegakilwe, will have a clear direction as to what measures to take going forward.
The municipality hosted a council meeting yesterday to discuss the issues that lead to the protest. The mayor of the Municipality, Kagiso Palagangwe, was also present in the meeting amongst other dignitaries.
Thapelo further urges employees to return to work while the matters are being attended to as residents are affected by their actions.
