Police minister, Bheki Cele, is set to inspect safer festive season operations in Bloemfontein in the Free State.

This is according to his spokesperson, Lirandzu Themba, in a statement. She says Cele, along with top SAPS Management, will do a walkabout and engage with members of the public on Saturday.

She adds the minister will also monitor a planned roadblock, and inspect multi-disciplinary police operations put in place around the province.

Themba also adds that Cele will oversee compliance and enforcement of Covid-19 lockdown regulations.

Cele is visiting the province for at least the third time this year. In October he addressed farmers in the Eastern Free State in Paul roux near Senekal following the murder of 21-year old farm manager, Brendin Horner.

“The Minister of Police, General Cele, acting Police Commissioner, Lt General Mfazi and top management of the South African Police Service, will participate in various community awareness engagements and inspections of police festive season operations. These include visits to public spaces such as taxi ranks, malls and other areas on social gatherings,” Themba adds.

Cele is expected to address the media at Hoffman Square in the central business district (CBD) at 09:00. He will thereafter do a walkabout at a long-distance taxi rank (Majakathata) where he will engage with commuters and drivers. Cele is also set to visit the planned roadblocks where he will engage with motorists and thereafter visit Twin City and Lemo malls where he will engage with shoppers.
