The former Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan is back at the club after signing a one-year contract with the defending English Premiership champions.
The German international midfielder (33) left the Citizens after the 2022/23 season for the La Liga giants, Barcelona. He however spent just one season at Barca before sensationally reuniting with his former club. During his time in Spain, he played 36 games for Barca and scored five goals.

Gundogan, who retired from international football after Euro 2024 in Germany, said he couldn’t be happier to be back at his former club. “My seven years at Manchester City was a time of pure contentment for me, both on and off the pitch.
“I grew as a person and a player, developed a special relationship with the City fans, and enjoyed amazing success. It was an exceptional period in my life. To have the opportunity to return here means so much.
