The Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs, will be heading to Bloemfontein later this month to compete in the inaugural Toyota Cup.

This was announced in Soweto on Monday morning during the tournament’s launch.

The Amakhosi will face international opposition in the form of the Tanzanian outfit, Young Africans, who are regulars in the CAF Champions League.

The Glamour Boys are no strangers to playing in Bloemfontein as they used to face Bloemfontein Celtic in the city annually during the Macufe Cup.

This match will see the newly appointed Chiefs coach, Nasreddine Nabi, guiding his team against his former club from Dar es Salaam. The 58-year-old Tunisian coached Yanga from 2021 to 2023 before heading to FAR Rabat, from where he was joined the Amakhosi.

Nabi was announced as the new Chiefs coach on Sunday and this will be one of this first games in charge.

Kaizer Chiefs’ Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung said the Toyota Cup aligns with the club’s strategic objective of further enhancing its brand on the continent.

“We are excited to be launching this ground-breaking initiative through our partnership with Toyota,” said Motaung.

“The Kaizer Chiefs brand has been successfully built on the club’s rich history of its contribution to not only South African football, but the ever-growing brand of football on the continent.

“In Yanga, our club has found brand synergies that align to our objective of enhancing the African football brand, and through the Toyota Cup, we look forward to collectively working together in achieving this.”

The game will be played at the Toyota Stadium on Sunday, 28 July, and kick-off is at 15:00. To add to the occasions a curtain-raiser will be played between Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic legends and this match will kick-off at 12:30.
