Gallants to host AmaZulu in Round of 16─── MORGAN PIEK 08:44 Thu, 30 Jan 2025
The Bloemfontein-based Premier Soccer League Club, Marumo Gallants, will fancy their chances of reaching the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup following a favourable draw for the Round of 16.
On Wednesday night, Gallants were drawn in a home fixture against the Durban-based AmaZulu. While Usuthu also compete in the PSL, the home-ground advantage will be a big plus for Gallants, and in their previous meeting, they claimed a 1-0 victory in the league.
Gallants reached the Round of 16 after beating Pretoria Callies 1-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville in the opening game of the Nedbank Cup. AmaZulu, in turn, made light work of beating Mighty Eagles 5-1 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi.

In the other Round of 16 fixtures, the big guns have all avoided each other, and in addition, they will get to play their upcoming games at home.
The defending champions, Orlando Pirates, will face Baroka FC at the Orlando Stadium, while Kaizer Chiefs will entertain Chippa United at Soccer City.
The seven-time defending PSL champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, no doubt have the easiest draw as they will be up against Mpheni Home Defenders FC from Limpopo. Stellenbosch FC will have a tougher game against the ever-unpredictable Polokwane City in Coetzenburg.
Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport United will entertain Ernst Middendorp’s Cape Town Spurs, either in Pretoria or Polokwane. Sekhukhune United, in turn, will travel to KwaZulu-Natal where they will face Royal AM or Milford FC.

The game between Royal AM and Milford has not yet been played due to Royal AM being suspended from the PSL for all of their league, as well as cup games, until further notice. At this stage, there is no clarity on whether or not the suspension will be lifted. Should it not, Milford will advance to the next round.
This has also affected the league meeting between Gallants and Royal AM that was scheduled to be played at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
The PSL is yet to confirm the dates and venues for the Round of 16.
