The Premier Soccer League and Kaizer Chiefs are in mourning following the tragic death of the young and promising centre-back, Luke Fleurs.
The 24-year-old Amakhosi defender was shot and killed in Johannesburg on Wednesday night during an attempted hijacking in Florida.
At this stage there are no other details around the incident.
Fleurs joined the Soweto giants from SuperSport United in October 2023 on a two-year contract with an option to extend by a one-year. Since his arrival at the Glamour Boys he enjoyed limited game time.
At SuperSport he made 66 appearances for the club and scored two goals. Before that, he came through the ranks at Ubuntu Cape Town.
He previously represented South Africa at U17 level in 2016 and at U23 level in 2021.
In 2021 he represented South Africa at the delayed Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. He had received two call-ups to Bafana Bafana but never played for the senior men's national team.
Premier Soccer League indicated that the will all clubs in all the leagues will pay tribute to the late Fleurs on the weekend.

“In this moment of profound loss, the PSL extends deepest sympathies to Kaizer Chiefs Football Club, the Fleurs family, and the entire football community.
