The first leg of the quarter-finals saw Sundowns leading with a 4-1 win over CR Belouizdad in Algeria last week Saturday. Arriving back in South Africa on Monday, the 24th of April, the team got straight to work with another win in sight.

This weekend’s win sees them at an aggregate score of 6-2 over CR Belouizdad heading into the semi’s. 

After a loss last week, CR Belouizdad started off strong, first by defending Themba Zwane’s attempt at goal in the 23rd minute and then by fighting back fast to secure the lead in the 24th minute. Belouizdad defender Sofiane Bouchar took to the net giving the visitors 1 on the scoreboard.  

Sundowns came back fighting to ensure they didn't end the first half scoreless. Themba Zwane hit the net in the 45th minute after working well with Morena securing a tie as they headed into half-time. 

The Brazilians were strong on attack and a quick goal into the second half made their determination evident. A quick pass by Khuliso Mudau, headed home by Morena secured Sundown’s victory early into the second half.

Thereafter, even without putting more to the scoreboard, the team managed to hold off CRB until the end. Their victory on Saturday, along with their first leg win, Sundown’s secured a 6-2 aggregate win over CR Belouizdad.

Next month, Mamelodi Sundowns will be up against old rivals Wydad Casablanca in the semifinals.
