The Premier Soccer League is reeling following the tragic news of the death of the Richards Bay player, Siphamandla Mtolo, on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old defender and captain was training with his teammates when he collapsed on Tuesday morning.
The club who are currently sixth on the PSL table confirmed that the player passed on after be collapsed during training.
At this stage the cause of death is unknown and the club confirmed the tragic news via a brief statement.
“He collapsed this morning during training.
“The club is not in a position to provide further information at this stage and asks that his family's privacy is respected in this difficult time of bereavement.
“His presence both on and off the field will be ... missed. Thoughts and prayers of everyone in Richards Bay Football Club are with his family, friends and loved ones.”
The Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and the South African Football Association also sent their condolences to the KwaZulu-Natal-based club and to the players family.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and Richards Bay FC following the tragic passing of Siphamandla Mtolo,” said the Amakhosi.
“We as the South African Football Association would like to convey our sincerest condolences, deepest sympathy and heartfelt sorrow to his family, friends and the club during this difficult time.
“May his soul rest in peace.”
The club are not playing in the Nedbank Cup last 16 this week, but were in training to face TS Galaxy on the 19th.
