Eskom receives backlash over new logo tender─── ZENANDE MPAME 16:07 Wed, 01 Nov 2023
“South Africans don’t care about the logo that Eskom uses, all they want is a reliable supply of electricity.”
Eskom, the state-owned power utility, sent out a tender notice for designing a new company logo and developing a corporate identity or brand design over five years to be executed on an 'as-and-when' required basis.
The closing date for submissions is Thursday (2/11).
The DA wrote to Eskom’s acting CEO, Calib Cassim, requesting that he cancel the tender.
“Eskom has been bankrupt for a while now and has been kept afloat by taxpayer-funded bailouts, the most recent of which was the R254 billion Eskom debt takeover by the government.”

“The decision by Eskom to put out a tender for a new corporate identity and logo is completely immature and frivolous at this time when they should be focusing on fixing Eskom,” said DA Member of Parliament Ghaleb Cachalia.
News 24 reported Eskom posted its biggest financial loss ever of R23.9 billion for the last financial year and warned that a similar loss was forecast for the 2023/24 financial year.

“The FF Plus is opposed to the million rands budgeted by Eskom for the development of a new logo, taxpayers had to fork out billions of rands for the debt of Eskom and now they continue with these luxuries.
“It is clear that the top managers at Eskom do not realise the crisis they are in, as well as the country,” said FF Plus Leader, Dr Pieter Groenewald.
