The Jacob Zuma Foundation says it has instituted private prosecution proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The criminal offence "was being an accessory after the fact to crimes committed, among other things, by Adv. Billy Downer, namely, violating the provisions of the National Prosecuting Authority Act".
The Foundation’s spokesperson, Mzwanele Manyi, told SABC News in an interview that he will release more information at a later stage as he still needs to read through the 51-page summons.
'Ramaphosa has got a date in court in new year'
"But I think it suffices to say that President Ramaphosa has got a date in court in the new year."
Manyi further adds that "President Zuma is a law-abiding citizen, he doesn't take the law into his hands.
"He is a president of hope, and he continues to hope that one of these days, the justice system will respond positively to the call of holding everyone accountable, equally before the law, so we're hoping that in this case, there won't be a justice with eyes, but a justice without eyes, and that the rule of law will reign supreme.
"If you've got somebody that breaks the law, it must not matter who you are; all that must matter is that the law has been broken. In this case, the law has been broken and is being brought to the courts and we will have this discussion fully blown out in the new year."
