Lt Gen Sehlahle Fannie Masemola has been announced as the new national police commissioner by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
President Ramaphosa made the announcement during a live address to the nation.
This follows the departure of Khehla Sitole. Masemola is the previous national deputy police commissioner.

According to Rapahosa, Masemola has a sterling record of achievements in policing across South Africa.

Masemola further played a leading role in coordinating secutiry for all elections we have had, since and including 1994.

Ramaphosa said the weight of the nation's expectations resting on Masemola's shoulders will be matched only by the weight of support government will place at his disposal.
