South Africa's international airports were this week subjected to inspection.

The OR Tambo, King Shaka and Cape Town international airports were subjected to inspection to ensure that they comply with the measures aimed at combating the spread of Covid-19.

According to the spokesperson for the South African Civil Aviation Authority  (SACAA), Kabelo Ledwaba, the director of SACAA, Poppy Khoza, lead a team of inspectors on a compliance check at all the South African international airlines.

He says Khoza's visit was to ensure that aviation does not contribute to the spread of the coronavirus.

Khoza is urging every citizen who will be taking flights to play their part by wearing a mask, observing social distancing and to adhere to all protection measures put in place.

Ledwaba adds that the aviation industry contributes largely to the sustainability of socio-economic activities. Therefore, ensuring that airlines and airports monitor compliance is crucial.

Furthermore, he reports that Khoza stated that the airlines have adjusted their schedules to adhere to the curfews put in place by the Minister of transport, Fikile Mbalula. She added that there is general compliance with all prescribed protocols, however, there are some concerns that require improvement. Moreover, Khoza stated that airlines and airports have committed to ensuring that adjustments be made and that neglectful persons will be fined.

Also, citizens who do not possess a valid PCR test will not be able to board their flight.
