It is all systems go for by-elections set to take place in the Mamusa Local Municipality in the North West on Wednesday.
This, after the provincial government disbanded its council and placed the municipality under administrations last year in October.
The municipality, located in Schweizer-Reneke, is among the financially troubled North West municipalities that have been battling to provide services to its residents, failing to fill vacant posts nor collect revenue among its other responsibilities.
The Premier’s spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, told OFM News the municipality was troubled with its council unable to reach any agreements and it was dissolved because of collapsed services.
The municipality falls under the controversial Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality, which forms part of the four North West municipalities that invested R314 million in the liquidated VBS Mutual Bank.
EFF leader, Julius Malema, has meanwhile urged the community of Mamusa to refrain from voting for the ruling parting, stating that they are the solution to the lack of service delivery challenges experienced in the municipality.
The by-elections in the nine wards of the municipality are expected to be hotly contested by political parties and used as a tool to draw voters ahead of the 2021 local government elections.
