Bojanala wants to suspend municipal manager and CFO─── 11:22 Mon, 07 Oct 2019
The Bojanala Platinum District Municipality in North West wants to suspend its municipal manager and chief financial officer over the delayed payment of workers' salaries.
This after a report tabled at a special council meeting on Thursday flagged allegations of serious acts of financial misconduct against municipal manager Pogiso Shikwane and chief financial officer Olga Ndlovu, which may have compromised financial stability of the municipality.
The council resolved to issue a notice of intention to place both the municipal manager and chief financial officer on precautionary suspensions.
"Both senior managers will be given opportunity to make written representations within seven days to council with regard to the reasons why they should not be suspended," municipal spokesman Archie Babeile said.
He said the municipality was in regular engagement with the provincial government to find an amicable solution to the financial situation of the municipality.
Council was expected to sit this week to consider the representations from Shikwane and Ndlovu.
The municipality managed to pay some of the workers, but was unable to pay those on the higher salary scales. This included councillors.
The Democratic Alliance in the North West has called on the provincial public accounts committee to urgently summon the political leadership and senior managers of the municipality to account for the municipality's dire financial state that has again led to the non-payment of salaries.
In July, the municipality failed to pay salaries on time after the provincial treasury withheld its equitable share.
