The Bulls have confirmed the signing of Springbok flyhalf Handré Pollard, marking his return for a second stint at the Pretoria-based franchise.

The two-time Rugby World Cup winner previously represented the Bulls from 2013 to 2019 before moving abroad, where he played for Montpellier in the French Top 14 and Leicester Tigers in the English Premiership. He also had a stint with the Red Hurricanes Osaka in Japan’s Top League.

Pollard returns to Loftus Versfeld on a two-year deal set to begin on 1 July. However, due to his commitments with the Springboks during their international series at the same time, he is only expected to make his first appearance for the Bulls later in the season.

“I am truly grateful for this opportunity,” says Pollard. “It’s something I don’t take for granted. Being able to come home after a fantastic few years overseas – I'm beyond excited.”

“I started my career at the Bulls, and those six years played a massive role in shaping the player and person I am today. This team and franchise have always held a special place in my heart, and I can’t see myself playing anywhere else in South Africa.”

As Leicester Tigers prepare for a crucial weekend with their season reaching its climax, Pollard remains committed to the club and its supporters.

“Leicester Tigers, I am extremely proud to be part of this club. These past three seasons have been some of the most enjoyable of my career, and I’ll forever be grateful to have been a Tiger. There is still a lot of rugby to be played, and I’m excited to finish the season and my time at Leicester on a high.”

Before departing for Europe in 2019, the 30-year-old made 62 appearances for the Bulls over six seasons, amassing 629 points. His tally included 11 tries, 119 penalties, 104 conversions, and four drop goals – a record he now hopes to build on.
