The Toyota Cheetahs have received a major boost ahead of the SA Cup, which kicks off next week. Powerful, ball-carrying loose forward Friedle Olivier has been declared fit and is back in training with the team.

This is certainly welcome news ahead of their opening clash against the Boland Cavaliers in Wellington in just over a week from now. Olivier picked up a niggle during the EPCR Challenge Cup, and the team certainly felt his absence on the field.

The former Siberian-based player told OFM Sport that he can’t wait to get back out there.

“Yes, I started training with the team again on Monday – it’s great to be back on the field and to train with the boys again,” said Olivier.

“It’s been a long few weeks on the sidelines, but that’s behind me now. The goal is to stay fit and on the field this time, especially after all the injuries I dealt with last year.”

Olivier acknowledged that Boland would be a tough challenge, particularly away from home, but he believes the Cheetahs have what it takes to secure a win despite several injuries in the squad.

“We’re very excited to play again. It’s going to be a thrilling competition, starting with a lekker game against Boland. It’s going to be tough, but the boys have been putting in the hard yards over the past five to six weeks, and I believe we’re ready.

“It’s going to be physical, it’s going to be intense, but I back the boys all the way—they have what it takes.

“As you said, ‘Oud word is nie vir sissies nie, maar in dieselfde woorde, ek is oud maar nog nie koud nie” - so, we’re going to stay on the field and give it our all.

“We’ll go in with all guns blazing to show that we are the best.”

The Cheetahs will kick off their campaign next Saturday in Wellington, with this match set to kick off at 15:00.
