Agri podcast: Two suspects in court following Rustenburg farm attack | News Article

Two farm murder suspects are expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court after attacking a farmer and two of his workers on a farm in Modderfontein, close to Rustenburg.

The suspects also face a charge of house robbery. Police spokesperson, Adéle Myburgh, says two other suspects are still at large. She explains that this follows after the four suspects entered the farm on Wednesday 21 September, overpowered the victims and severely assaulted the 68-year-old owner, Frans Venter. Numerous items were then robbed by the suspects who fled the scene on foot, whereafter two were caught.

An emerging livestock farmer in Jagersfontein says he only has one cow left after a mine dam collapsed in the area. Dithaba Sibonyane and other communal and emerging farmers are hoping for a way forward as they are still assessing the damages after the disaster struck on Sunday 11 September. Sibonyane is concerned that most of the affected farmers, especially those who inherited their livestock from their deceased parents, have no proof of ownership. He says they worry that this will prevent them from receiving financial assistance. Sibonyane says he lost his income when he lost his livestock.
