Police spokesperson, Adele Myburgh, says a suspect was shot dead after he and his three alleged accomplices came under gunfire following an attempt to rob a motorist in Rustenburg at a parking lot. 

She says four suspected robbers approached and attacked the man as he went to his car and tried to rob him of his belongings. But, following the attack by the suspects, the man pulled out a gun and started shooting in the direction of the suspects. One suspect was fatally shot while a female civilian sustained injuries to her arm.

Meanwhile, Myburgh says there is a suspicion that the same four men also robbed a woman of her belongings on Friday morning in Rustenburg.

"In the first incident this morning (Friday) at about quarter past nine, a lady was just about to leave her vehicle in the parking lot when she was approached by four male suspects. She was overpowered [by the suspects] who demanded her car keys and stripped her of her jewellery and searched her vehicle for her belongings and then fled the scene," she adds.

Myburgh says shortly after the incident another male victim, who was also approaching his vehicle after coming out from the shopping centre, was attacked by what would seem like the same suspects who attacked the woman earlier that morning.
