Potato record shattered yet again─── 18:00 Wed, 16 Mar 2016

Durban - Yet another potato price record has been shattered after a farmer from Christiana this week reportedly received R150 per 10kg bag at the Durban Fresh Produce Market.
Landbou.com reports that Johan Greyling of Aqua Boerdery sold a pallet of 110 bags of Sifra potatoes at the record breaking price on Monday. The previous record was R110 per 10kg bag.
The article quotes Johan Botes, a representative of RSA Market Agents in Durban, as saying the high price is largely due to the shortage of quality potatoes because of the drought.
Botes is predicting a decrease in prices going forward as farmers from the Christiana area are expected to now start filling the market with potatoes of the same quality.
