Johan Booysen case postponed─── 10:53 Fri, 19 Feb 2016
Durban - The case against former KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head, Johan Booysen, and 27 members of the so-called “Cato Manor death squad” has been postponed to 1 April.
The members of the now disbanded Cato Manor Serious and Violent Crimes Unit made a brief appearance in the Durban High Court a short while ago.
The State reinstated racketeering charges against them.
In an appearance that lasted less than five minutes, Judge Shyam Giyanda postponed the matter after the defense indicated their intention to challenge the certificate of racketeering that's been served on the accused.
Booysen, who handed himself over this morning, had his bail of R5 000 extended with the same conditions that applied previously. These include that he hand over his passport and not interfere with witnesses.
In court, the defense - representing all 28 - sought confirmation from the state that the indictment had not changed, that all statements had been disclosed, that the list of witnesses the state intended calling had not changed and should more witnesses be added, the defense would be notified.
