Water supply remains constrained in NW Rustenburg─── LUCKY NKUYANE 07:23 Fri, 21 Dec 2018
The Water supply in Rustenburg, North West, remains constrained as the Vaalkop and Vaal River water systems remain under strain, due to an increased demand. This is according to Rand Water.
The Rand water spokesperson, Justice Mohale, says the situation has worsened by increased community use, infrastructure related losses and production requirements on some mines.
This follows a meeting between Rustenburg water stakeholders comprised of the Rustenburg Local Municipality, Rand Water and representatives of the local mining sector on Thursday.
Mohale says a restriction management protocol has also been agreed upon by the stakeholders, based on a revised quota during the water crisis period.
He has further urged all consumers to use water wisely, adding that every drop of water counts. Severe water restrictions are expected to be implemented on customers that continue to exceed their agreed quotas. The stakeholders have committed to work openly and transparently towards mitigating the water crisis.
