NW premier’s address about Ramokokastad violence cancelled | News Article

The destruction of public property and the ongoing unrest in Ramokokastad was expected to be at the centre of a planned media briefing by the North West Premier on Sunday.

Premier Job Mokgoro was expected to highlight intervention measures in that area relating to service delivery that has been badly affected by the violent protests. According to the premier’s spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, this was, however, cancelled at the last minute.

Schools and clinics have been affected by the unrest in that area since the month of June. This after a standoff between the BaPhalane Traditional Council and the local residents who accuse the council of maladministration.

OFM News previously reported that Mokgoro told the community that the intervention measures included the appointment of investigators with clear terms of references relating to issues raised around the administration and good governance.

Two schools - Kwenatlase High School and Baphalane Primary School - were torched last weekend.

Schools, clinics and bus transport were shut down or disrupted as villagers want Kgosi Joy Ramokoka to be suspended following allegations of maladministration, demanding an administrator take over the running of the village. Concerned parents said they were unable to enrol their children to other schools for the New Year.
