Mangaung Metro brushes off DA allegations─── 10:46 Wed, 01 Aug 2018
The Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State has brushed off the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) allegations of failing the taxpayers.
The DA earlier slammed the metro’s acknowledgement of service delivery challenges and accused them of failing the taxpaying residents of Mangaung.
In response to questions by OFM News, the Municipality’s spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, says the municipality is attending to matters that have been raised by the DA.
Khedama says there are a number of initiatives that the city has taken with regards to waste such as the launch of the Clean-up Mangaung Project that forms part of mayoral projects.
He further says this is part of initiatives aimed to address littering and waste management across the city. He added that they have partnered with more than 50 private companies and this initiative will be rolled out to other regions.
The municipality is experiencing serious backlogs following the crash of its server that interrupted some of the services and rates hall.
Khedama says certain payments were delayed due to problems with the server. The municipality has since managed to resuscitate its server back in full operation last week.
“We are, however, aware that the server crash had a crippling effect on service delivery, with some of our workers, especially at Waste Management, not working. This has led to the backlog of waste collection in the city. We have also been working towards ensuring that the service providers who are providing other essential services are being paid, for example, Telkom, Bloem Water, and chemical suppliers, to ensure smooth daily operations in the city. We have, however, engaged in the mop-up process,” says Khedama.
