Earmarked land for Bloemfontein Zoo damaged by fire─── JOSCA HUMAN 07:56 Fri, 29 Sep 2017
Firefighters have managed to control the blaze at the Quaggafontein Nature Reserve outside of Bloemfontein Thursday afternoon.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started at midday. It started at Du Plessis Avenue in Langenhovenpark and spread to the nature reserve. The community assisted firefighters with two fire trucks to fight the blaze. It is not yet clear how the fire has started.
An estimated 30 hectares of municipal land has burned down at Quaggafontein. This area is earmarked to be used by the Bloemfontein Zoo in future.
A firefighter said they are not aware of any animals that were injured in the fire. The fire has been put out completely. The area was again checked for any possible hotspots.
