FS Heritage Committee speaks on the state of Old Ramkraal Prison─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:42 Wed, 13 Sep 2017
The Free State Heritage Committee says the Old Ramkraal Prison where developments of the new Free State Provincial Legislature Complex was set to take place should not be in the state in which it is currently.
The chairperson of the committee, Joe Serekoane, says they had received an application for the work that would be taking place at this heritage site more than five years ago, but developments in the project have since been halted.
He says although he is at this stage unable to outline what needs to be done moving forward, he can confirm that the Old Ramkraal Prison falls under the National Heritage Act and should, therefore, be preserved and not left in the state in which it currently is.
Opposition parties in the Free State Legislature have since lambasted the ruling party for allegedly spending millions that are not accounted for on this project. The ANC Caucus told OFM News that the project is currently under review and a report can be expected by the end of November this year.
