Deputy Minister of Police to host 16 Days of Activism Imbizo in Qwaqwa─── 15:01 Tue, 29 Nov 2016
Deputy Minister of Police, Makhotso Sotyu, will be hosting a Ministerial Imbizo to observe the commemoration of 16 Days of Activism against the abuse of women and children at the Bluegumbosch Stadium, in Qwaqwa, on Wednesday 30 November.
The minister will be in direct talks with residents of the Bluegumbosch community.
The newly appointed Provincial Commissioner of the Free State South African Police Service (SAPS), Lebeoana Tsumane, and his deputies, including other senior officers from the province will also be in attendance at the event.
Gangsterism was identified as one of the most prevalent crimes in Bluegumbosch lately, where the youth of the area is directly involved.
To this day, the abuse of women and children remains a global problem with South Africa being rated as one of those countries where violence against women and children are at high levels.
Alarmed by this phenomenon, the world at large chose to put aside 16 days out of its calendar days to campaign against the abuse of women and children and this year marks the 18th year of this event.
It is held from 25 November to 10 December every year and its main aim is to increase awareness about the negative impact that violence and abuse have on women and children.
In her capacity as a parent and a Deputy Minister of Police in the country, Sotyu will be engaging with the parents and the youth in an effort to find amicable solutions to the problems caused by gangsterism and violence on women and children at large.
The SAPS and other Government Departments will be conducting an exhibition on the site.
