Mangaung Municipality’s project awarded as the best in Africa─── REFILWE GAESWE 14:34 Fri, 12 Feb 2016
Bloemfontein - Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality was awarded the best African project of the year on Thursday.
According to Kostas Rontiris, CEO of an international consulting company SMEC, the award is for the implementation of the municipality’s asset management system. SMEC is a professional services firm that provides consultancy services on major infrastructure projects, amongst others. Rontiris said the project beat thousands of other projects. SMEC is currently busy with 800 different projects in South Africa and 200 in the rest of the continent.
Rontiris emphasized that out of all their projects, Mangaung’s asset management system won for the best technical, innovation and delivery aspect. He explained that when they’re working with their clients, they build partnerships and try to achieve specific elements.
Rotiris further highlights that it is not what SMEC has done but what they have done together with Mangaung. Mangaung’s deputy mayor, Connie Rampai, together with mayoral committee member (MMC) for Finance, Nthabiseng Mokotjo, received the awards respectively.
“Our first aim is high quality of work, secondly, transfer our global knowledge to the local people and to our clients. Thirdly, we use innovation in our projects and lastly we aim to create a sustainable environment so that when we complete the project, our clients can still carry on with it in a sustainable manner and can reap the benefits of this.”
