Salt Week – Change promoted by the World Action on Salt, Sugar and Health (WASSH) | News Article

It is Salt Week and Mid-Morning Magic’s Yolanda Maartens is joined by Mhairi Brown, International Projects Lead for the World Action on Salt and Sugar Health, to talk about what WASSH does around the world.

World Action on Salt, Sugar and Health (WASSH) is a global organization dedicated to improving public health by reducing the amount of salt, sugar and trans fats in the food supply. The organization was founded in 2005 and is based in the United Kingdom.

WASSH works with governments, health organizations, food companies and other stakeholders to raise awareness about the health risks associated with consuming too much salt, sugar and trans fats. These include high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, obesity and diabetes.

WASSH advocates for policies and regulations that promote healthier food choices and reduce the amount of salt, sugar and trans fats in processed foods. This includes working with food companies to reformulate their products, as well as promoting the use of front-of-package labelling to help consumers make informed choices.

Through its work, WASSH aims to create a food environment that supports healthy eating habits and reduces the burden of diet-related chronic diseases around the world.
