Donovan Ferreira, Tabraiz Shamsi and Gerald Coetzee all claimed two wickets in an over as the Joburg Super Kings comfortably beat Durban’s Super Giants by 28 runs in their SA20 game at Kingsmead in Durban last night.

Ferreira, a part-time offspinner, conceded only 15 runs in his four overs and claimed the scalps of Wiaan Mulder and Jason Smith in his first over. Shamsi bowled Chris Woakes, before trapping his South African spin twin Kesh Maharaj leg before. And Coetzee finally saw off player of the match Quinton de Kock and tailender Naveen ul-Haq in the 18th over as the home team were bowled out for 141 chasing the visitors’ total of 169 for seven.

Super Giants’ middle-order batter Quinton de Kock played a lone hand of 55 (off 45 balls) to keep his team afloat in pursuit of JSK’s 169/4.

Imran Tahir also produced a moment of brilliance in the field when the 45-year-old took a brilliant two-handed diving catch at point off a Wiaan Mulder reverse-sweep.

After the game, Tahir said the team’s confidence is high.

“I think the first two games, as a team, if you win you have a lot of confidence about every player and those who got the opportunity, and I feel that everyone is very confident.  We had a great seven, eight days in Johannesburg even though it has been raining every day. We put in a lot of effort as a team and it’s nice to see those efforts rewarded. We will take this momentum going forward,” he said.

Joburg Super Kings will face Pretoria Capitals next on Thursday afternoon in Johannesburg.
