Bangladesh fought back on day three of the 1st Test against the Proteas in Dhaka following a couple of tough days for the home side.

The Tigers resumed their second innings of 101/3 on Wednesday and lost two quick wickets to the on-fire Kagiso Rabada. South Africa just weren’t able to land the knockout blow on the pitch which got a lot flatter.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy was caught by David Bedingham off the bowling of Rabada for 40, while the highly experienced Mushfiqur Rahim was bowled out for 33. The wicketkeeper Liton Das was caught off the bowling of Maharaj for 7.

An unbeaten 87 by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and 58 by Jaker Ali led the hosts to 283/7 when play was called early due to bad light. At the close Nayeem Hasan was also unbeaten on 16.

The was a short-lived rain interruption which forced an early tea break, however, when play resumed only five overs were bowled before umpires called play for the day due to bad light.

While Bangladesh managed to take the lead in the Test, they are far from being out of the woods yet.

The Proteas spinner, Keshav, who has three-second innings wickets thus far, said they are still in command of the Test.

“Bangladesh batted very well today as the conditions got a little bit better and we bowled with a slightly used ball,” said Maharaj.

“But, I think we are still ahead. Bangladesh has a lead and we still have three wickets to go.

“So, obviously we want to restrict them as much as possible, but I still feel we're in the pound seats considering the good work that we did with the bat in our first innings.”

Bangladesh will resume their second innings on Thursday holding an 87-run lead with three wickets in the bank.
