The former Proteas fast bowler, Allan Donald, believes that Kagiso Rabada will take many wickets for South Africa.

On Monday, Rabada (29) became the sixth South African to take 300 wickets in Test cricket, and he did so in world record time.

Donald was the first South African to join the elite 300 club and was joined by Shaun Pollock, Makhaya Ntini, Dale Steyn, and Morné Morkel over the years.

Donald told OFM Sport that he does not doubt that KG will go on to take a lot more wickets if he stays fit and injury-free.

“I texted him earlier this morning, well, when they were done in Bangladesh this afternoon, and what an achiever, what an unbelievable champion of a fast bowler he is,” said the Free State cricketing legend.

“They showed all those strike rates, and, you know, for a 29-year-old to have a strike rate of 39 is unbelievable. It is unbelievable, and it just shows you the class of the guy, the leadership with the ball, the consistency of continuous performance at the highest level at any venue in the world.

“He is just incredibly special, and we are very lucky to have him as a South African, and long may he continue.

“My message to him was, ‘yep, now for the next 300’. It is a wonderful achievement, and there is no doubt that he will take a lot more wickets if he stays fit.

“He’s 29 now and he has played a lot of cricket – he has played a lot of cricket for South Africa, a lot of cricket in the Indian Premier League and certain leagues across the world, and he just keeps going.”

Steyn holds the record for the most wickets in Test cricket by a South African with 439.
