“I can't really describe it but we knew we were capable of it and we had a pretty good tournament so far coming into this game and we were quite confident.”

South Africa are into the final of the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup following an historic win against Australia in Dubai on Thursday.

The Proteas Women booked their spot in back-to-back World Cup finals with a convincing 8-wicket win against Australia.

The Proteas dominated performance dethroned the team which beat them in February last year in the historic final in Cape Town.

Australia had a bat first in the final and were restricted to 134/5 in their allotted 20-overs thanks to a fine bowling display by South Africa.

The wicketkeeper, Beth Mooney, top-scored for Australia with 44, while Ellyse Perry scored 31 and the captain Tahlia McGrath chipped in with 27.

Ayabonga Khaka took 2/24 in her four overs, while Marizanne Kapp was brilliant again with 1/24 and Nonkululeko Mlaba took 1/31. Chloe Tryon was equally impressive with her 0/25.

The former Free State player, Anneke Bosch, scored the heighted score of the tournament thus far with a brilliant 74 not out off 48 balls, which included 8 fours and a six as South Africa chased down the target in 17.2 overs.

The captain Laura Wolvaardt became the leading run-scorer at the World Cup with her knock of 42-runs.

Annabel Sutherland took both of South Africa's wickets to record figures of 2/26 in her 4-overs.

Speaking after the win, Bosch, said the adrenalin in still pumping after her player of the match performance.

“My heart is racing - it was quite tough out there but I'm really glad we could get over the line and that I could finally contribute with some runs,” said Bosch.

“I think just keep trying to push the floor and stick to what's in you and what works in these conditions. Not to overthink and don't try too many things. Just play what the conditions allow and stick to what's in your mind.

“I can't really describe it but we knew we were capable of it and we had a pretty good tournament so far coming into this game and we were quite confident. I think our batters like Tazmin Brits and Laura Wolvaardt have been incredible this tournament and also our bowlers have been really, really good.”

The Proteas will face the winners of Friday's semi-final between New Zealand and the West Indies. This semi-final will get underway at 16:00 on Friday in Sharjah.

The final is scheduled to be played on Sunday in Dubai.
