There aren’t expected to be many surprises in the squad, however, the Proteas regular white-ball captain, Temba Bavuma, is expected to be included after recovering from his elbow injury.

The Knights batter, Rilee Rossouw, is also expected to crack the nod.

It will remain to be seen if the Knights seamer, Gerald Coetzee, gets selected. Before the Proteas tour to England, the national coach, Mark Boucher, previously told OFM Sport that they have World Cup plans for the fast bower.

“We looked at the pace aspect, especially where we are going to later in the year for a World Cup.

“He has also come through the South African A set-up. He has been on the edge for quite some time now and he has got a gift that is difficult to get - he has got pace and bounce. He is quite aggressive as well. That is the sort of character that we have been looking at.

“He will maybe not necessarily come in and play yet, but certainly as a backup we needed to get into the system. It's just in case something happens to our fast bowlers and we will not be under pressure to select someone who hasn't been in this environment before.”

The 2022 T20 World Cup gets underway on 16 October.
