The Knights claimed their third consecutive win in the CSA One-Day Cup by beating the Lions by 74 runs according to the DLS method at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
This crucial away victory at the Bullring has propelled Free State up to second on the log, and they must now start considering themselves strong contenders for the playoffs.
The Knights batted first and posted a massive 292/7 in a reduced 39 overs.

Big-hitting Jacques Snyman led the charge for the visitors with a colossal knock of 160 off 118 balls, smashing 12 fours and eight sixes. He was well supported by former Lions captain Dominic Hendricks, who is on loan to the Knights. Hendricks notched up his second consecutive half-century for the team, scoring 58 off 83 balls. Dian Forrester chipped in with 22, while left-arm seamer Tiaan van Vuuren added 20.
Despite the visitors’ imposing total, former Northern Cape Heat all-rounder Evan Jones was outstanding with the ball for the Lions, claiming 5/56 in his eight overs.
In response, Proteas opener and former Knight Reeza Hendricks scored 54 off 52 balls, while Mitchell van Buuren contributed 54 off 73. However, the Lions were restricted to 220/8 in their 39 overs.

Matthew Pollard, who enjoyed a rare opportunity in the Knights XI, took 3/56 in his eight overs, while Van Vuuren continued his good form with 2/39 in seven. Captain and Proteas spinner Dane Piedt was also brilliant with the ball, returning figures of 2/30 in his eight-over spell.
While the Knights are in a strong position, the Titans are set to face the Warriors at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Sunday. A win for the team from Gqeberha could see them reclaim second place if they manage to beat the Titans.
For the Knights, it will be imperative to secure a fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday when they take on the Dolphins at Kingsmead in Durban.
