Calls to suspend CEO of North West Housing Corporation after allegations─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 12:03 Sat, 15 Mar 2025

The North West Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Human Settlements has called for the immediate suspension of the North West Housing Corporation CEO, and the halt of all Mega and Smart City projects in the province.
This follows allegations about a troubling event at Lokaleng village, which cost taxpayers R250,000 but ultimately ended in failure.
The call for action came during an urgent special meeting convened by the committee on Friday (14/3). The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs, Kgalalelo Makgokgowa, called on the North West MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Gaoage Molapisi, to immediately suspend Sello Mogodiri pending a thorough forensic investigation into the matter.
He said that the committee’s decision was prompted by Mogodiri's inadequate presentation regarding the financial and operational integrity of the Mega and Smart City projects.

According to Makgokgowa, Mogodiri failed to provide satisfactory answers to critical questions about the project’s viability and the financial implications of the failed Lokaleng event. He said Mogodiri was also instructed to submit a written report at a later stage, but the committee dismissed his explanations as insufficient.
“The conduct of the North West Housing Corporation (NWHC) CEO is unacceptable and must be addressed immediately. We will not allow mismanagement, ill-discipline, and reckless spending to continue unchecked. We demand that the MEC institute a forensic investigation into the entity.
“Furthermore, remove the CEO as the accounting authority for the promotion of good corporate governance and consequence management,” Makgokgowa stated firmly.

He said the committee also set a strict seven-day deadline for the NWHC to provide several key reports and documents. These included:
- A comprehensive report on stakeholder consultations, including engagements with the tribunal council and affected community representatives.
- Full disclosure of investment pledges, project preparations, recruitment processes, and service-level agreements related to the failed Lokaleng event.
- A detailed risk assessment report.
- A report from the Office of the Premier on the SOD Turning Event of 2024, including a breakdown of all expenditures, events, and attendance registers.
Makgokgowa also called on Molapisi to provide an urgent report on the consequences faced by NWHC due to the blatant misuse of public funds, specifically referencing the Lokaleng event and the SOD Turning Event.
