Winburg police have asked residents to help in their search for the murderer of a three-year-old.
The body of the toddler was found on Sunday (17/11) wrapped in a black plastic bag in someone’s yard in Makeleketla. The toddler’s older brother reported him missing the day before, but the search was called off later that day after nothing was found.
A resident phoned the police on Sunday morning to report the body in the yard in the local township, said Free State police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng.
“Upon arrival, police discovered the body of a child wrapped in a black plastic bag. Emergency services declared the toddler deceased.” The next of kin of the toddler was informed and an uncle identified the body as his nephew Lethabo Litabe, he said.

Meanwhile, a North West man appeared in court near Taung on Monday on three counts of murder after he allegedly murdered his parents and his sister on Friday. Olebogeng Kale (33) was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Monday (25/11).
The family was inside their house when the suspect entered and allegedly struck his father, Mosimanegape Kale (74), on the head with a knobkerrie, his mother, Phodisho Kale (68), and sister, Bonolo Kale (27), before fleeing the scene.
“Emergency and medical rescue services were called and declared all three victims dead on the scene,” said North West police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh. Residents helped to track down the suspect, who was arrested on Saturday morning in Shaleng village.
North West Police Commissioner Lt. Gen Sello Kwenathanked the community for their help. “The police will work hard to ensure successful prosecution.”
