Kimberley motorists now have the benefit of a pothole-free driving experience on North Circular Road before Green Street, after months of waiting for repairs.

Sol Plaatje Municipality has resurfaced three main roads in the city and aims to reseal more in the upcoming month.

“Motorists and other road users on this major, high-traffic route can now enjoy a resurfaced and silky-smooth road,” said Sol Plaatje spokesperson Thabo Mothibi.

‘For October we undertook 40,000m² of road resealing at a cost of R10 million’

The municipality’s roads and stormwater unit recently completed the resealing of North Circular Road, which stretches from the Pniel Road intersection to the Green and Tucker intersection. They have also resurfaced Findlayson Road in Kirstenhof, as well as John Daka and President Mangope in Galeshewe.

“For the month of October, we undertook 40,000m² or 6km of road resealing at a cost of R10 million,” added Mothibi. The funds were used to cover material costs and the hiring of necessary machinery, with construction carried out by internal municipal staff.

A private organisation working alongside the municipality, Kimberley4Kimberley, has also made significant strides toward making the city’s roads safer. It’s repaired more than ten roads, including Ayliff, Atlas, Aristotle Avenue, Constantia, Capitol, De Beers, Hornby, Hendrik van Eck, Long Street, N12 Transvaalweg, Oliver, Phakamile Mabija, and Regiment Way.

The organisation says it’s always willing to assist the community; anyone with complaints can forward them to their website, and it welcomes donations.
