The school has received their International Federation of Funakoshi Shotokan Karate South Africa certificate, making them an official dojo to proceed with teachings at their building.

The school has eight students, three girls, and five boys since its opening, they also have two senior instructors with a black belt and the other a brown belt. Although the school is mainly for younger children, other members of the community are encouraged to join.

Karate offers many benefits such as being a stress-relieving mechanism, improving your flexibility, sharpening your reflexes, and allowing you to practice mindfulness according to The Karate Blog.

“My plans are to see my members participate at local, provincial, and national championships, my plan is to see my members competing at the Olympics one day.”

Vuyo hopes to produce champions from his dojo, and his motto is: “if your dreams don’t scare you, then they are not big enough”
